What will happen to the duck?

One of the children brought in a small yellow duck
and wanted to put it in water to see what would happen.

Anyone who was interested in guessing what would
happen to the duck was able to come to the table and
record their guess.

Everyone thought the duck would get bigger so they
drew pictures of how big they thought the duck would get.

We measured the duck using snap cubes before we put it in water.
It was 4 cubes high.

The next day we checked on the duck and sure enough
the duck was bigger.  The duck was 8 cubes high.
"Who guessed the right size?"
"How can we tell?"
"What if we use those cubes again to measure our pictures?"
"How can we measure a picture?"
"Just put the cubes on your paper!"

"My picture is 10 cubes high."

"It's 20 cubes tall!"
