It finally felt like spring so we decided to go outside to look for signs of spring.
| We saw berries on the bushes... |
| ...buds on the trees... |
| "There must be a bird's nest nearby." |
One of the teachers saw a bunny hopping around these bushes. The kids thought they might find a burrow or shallow hole where a bunny made a home. (we have been talking a lot about the kinds of homes rabbits live in.) |
| "Look! It's the first flowers of spring!" |
| "There's something green growing right there!" |
| Someone spotted more evidence of a rabbit. |
"Here is a worm hole...I just know a worm lives there!"
We collected worms a few days ago after the rain and the kids created a home for the worms with all the things worms need.
After talking about bunny homes, and worm homes, it got someone thinking about our snails. Their home needed to be cleaned so we put the snails here while we prepared a new home for them.
"Hey...snails and worms have the same home. They both like to live in wet dirt." |
| "Look, they both leave a slime trail." |
Notice the nest in the background. One of the children thought it would be a good idea to build a home for a bird. "We still need fluff and grass and stuff." |
And so begins our discussion of animal homes and habitats.
Today they want to build a pond for a few
different animals.
