What's Happening...

After the hair salon the girls decided they wanted to turn the house
center into a baby changing station.  They made a list of what they would
need in the center, gathered what they could and were making plans to set it up
the next day.  Meanwhile...some other girls were making crowns and wands and
suddenly we had ourselves a castle...complete with a dungeon and all.  The baby station
will have to wait for a few days...

Wands and crowns were created...

Costumes were made...

Castles were popping up all over the place...

After studying pictures of real castles, they created a Lego
castle with a drawbridge and a moat.

Princess stories were being writtten...

Other exciting Activities....

Exploring with tubes and marbles...

Finding the hidden ball under the cups.
Is it under the cup labelled 'm' or the cup
labelled 't'?

"The ball was under the 'o' cup!"

"Here is the ball!"

"Look....the ball is under the 'cat' cup!"

"It's my turn to roll the dice...I got a beaver."
"What is the coin with the beaver?"
"That one is called a nickel."

"I will roll the dice."

Getting ready for Christmas
We painted bubble wrap shaped like Christmas
Trees and decorated them with all sorts of
beautiful things.

Fly fly fly...

Fly, Fly, Fly...
The students were obsessed with making paper airplanes.  They tried and tried to make them and fold their papers.  Planes of every shape, size and colour were being made.  Some could fly and some could not.  They had fun making them though.  The next day I brought paper airplanes for them to fly.  We checked them out and predicted which type of plane would fly the farthest.  Everyone who wanted to make their prediction signed up on the survey, 'Which plane will fly farther?'

They decided there should be a starting line so everyone
would start at the same place.

They put a piece of tape on the floor to mark how far each plane went.

"I'm going to put my name here because this is
where my plane landed."

"Mine went so far!"

It was decided that the Dart airplane flew farther and
was the winner and the Falcon lost.
(I didn't notice my spelling mistake on 'farther' until right now...sorry!

Music class

Music class with everyone's favourite music teacher!
The piano was the instrument of the week.  Everyone had a chance
to come up and play the piano.

The children were learning a new song today and adding actions.

What else is going on?

With the first snowfall the children were so excited and wanted to make
 snowflakes...great practice of scissor skills.
Friends!
The boys are so interested in making their cars move...this ramp was used all over the classroom.
"I lost my fun Friday toy.  This paper says, my toy is lost."
"I made this all by myself."
This student found a box in the recycling bin and asked if she could have it.
She made a dog house, but didn't have a dog.  After searching the cupboards, we
found a dog and some dog bones.  "I can say all these letters on the bone...p  l  a  y."
After reading a book about space, he build a rocket ship.

"I built this house!"  During their play the boys made a connection to a story we read last week, called Our House.

Our snails are still doing well.  The snails at my house had 138 babies
so I brought some in to add to our snail habitat.  Our snails have since had 100 more...
if anyone would like to raise some snails...let me know.

"This is my rocket blasting off."

"Let's make a maze, like the kind of maze a mouse goes through."
"How will we get the toy to go through?"\
"Let's tie it to this stick."
"This is hard."
"The maze is wrecking when we pull the toy through."
"I have a hex bug that could do the maze...it's at my house."
"I have one too...let's bring them for Fun Friday!"

Fun Friday Arrives..."Look Miss, we brought our Hex Bugs!"
"Let's make the maze."

Notice the silver hex bug.
"This worked better for the silver Hex bug.  The red one didn't work though."
"I don't know why mine wouldn't do it."
"Maybe it needs new batteries."
"Maybe the maze is too skinny."

They came up with all sorts of reasons why the red bug wouldn't travel through the maze and tested many of them out.
