Minion Mania!

Minion Mania...

Many of our students have been talking about Pokemon and Pokemon cards.  Since Pokemon cards have numbers on them we created a card game to play where the person with the highest number on their card wins that round.  The only problem was we didn't have any Pokemon cards.  Of course the Dollar Store was sold out so...we made our own cards.  Instead of drawing Pokemon, the kids began drawing minions and giving each minion card a number.

"Mine has 100 powers."

Once the cards were made the game began.
"I win this one, I have 90 and you have 50."

The next day tiny minions arrived in the writing center.  Suddenly the minions were turned into magnets and speaking to each other on the whiteboard.

"Lets play a different game with the little minions."
"Sing that pass it on song..."
"Pass them around and whoever has the minion on the rocket is the winner."
"What does the winner get?"
"The winner gets to pick a word from the word wall and make us read it."

"I won!  I got the rocket!"
The first winner picked has, then someone chose dad.
"Look there is a message with the words, Dad has minions!"

The minions didn't arrive alone...they brought princesses to the writing center too.  The girls got busy making princess cards and thinking of a good game for their cards.

"Put a B on that one, it's Belle."
"Let's put all the Ariels here and the Belles there..."
"When the music stops tell me what letter the princess starts with."

"Everyone pick a card..."

Onomato-what?

Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia is a word that is created to imitate a sound, like cuckoo, meow, honk, or boom.  Since we've been talking about sound and how sound is created, we decided to read some stories that have 'sounds'.  After reading You Noisy Monkey and Down the Drain, we decided to make our own sounds...

Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle...

Pling, pling, pling...

Mine does pling, pling, pling too...

Hey, the stapler goes click, click, click...

"Listen...it's saying shshshshshshshsh."

"I made a shaker.  There's kernels inside."
"Shaka shaka shaka."

"Tap Tap Tap"

"I put stuff inside...listen."
"The ball rolls and goes thump thump thump."

"This is for my Grandma to put on her dog so she knows where it is all the time.  Or she could put it on the door knob so she knows when the dog wants to go out.  It says ring ring ring."

"It's a pot drum...cling cling cling..."

"The beads make a noise....chchchchchch"

"Tap tap tap"

Outdoor Play in FDK

We have had some beautiful autumn weather, giving us the opportunity to get outside and exercise those larger muscle groups!  The following pictures were taken during a class outing to the school play equipment.  You will see many smiling, confident faces!
