Merry Christmas!

Thank you to all of our families that were able to come to our Christmas Concert!  The children were so excited to sing for you.

We have been very busy preparing for Christmas...making decorations...

...baking cookies...

...icing cookies...

...'sneaking' treats...
(Thank you so much to a special mom who came and helped
us bake and ice our cookies for the concert!)

...and of course...learning about the true meaning of Christmas.
"I wrote about Joseph, Jesus and Mary.  I set the people
up in the stable."  (He set up the toy stable.)

"I put Mary...that's Jesus' mom."

"This has Mary, Joseph, and then Jesus.  Mary and Joseph
are the mom and dad and then the baby Jesus came."

"This is the stable."

Notice the 'Happy Tree' in the background, all decorated for Christmas.

"I made snowflakes...I put numbers in them all...see...1 and 1 is 2.  3 and 3 is 6.  5 and 5 is 10..."

"This is my reindeer story..."
The children have been making so many books.  It is amazing to see the different
phases of writing.  Some books have pictures only, others have squiggly lines filled with meaning
if you ask about the story, some have a letter to match the sounds of a specific word and others have full sentences.  It is amazing to see the language come alive for the students as they learn more and more about print.

More book making...

One of the children heard some older students talking about compound words
and wanted to know what they were.  We talked about it and they were so
excited to make compound words.  We found a puzzle all about different compound words,
so they got to work and decided to make lists of all the compound words they knew.

Merry Christmas!  Enjoy this time with your families.  See you in the new year!

Thank you!

Thank you so much to all of our families who have brought in donations for our canned drive and gift drive.  Your generosity is overwhelming!

Elf on the Shelf

The Elf on the Shelf Has Arrived in our Classroom!

One morning, we were so surprised to find an elf swimming in our empty fish bowl.  He left a message for us, "I love to swim!"  We are obsessed with speech bubbles so we were so excited.  We are also loving exclamation marks so we were doubly thrilled to see an elf who likes to use exclamation marks too!!!!

After reading the story about the Elf on the Shelf, we
decided we needed to give our elf a name.
There were many ideas...

After a vote we named our elf, 'Buddy'.

We made some predictions about where we thought the elf would
be the next morning.

Sometimes our predictions are correct...
Every morning the children are so excited to see where Buddy is
hiding and what sort of silliness he is up to.

Children have brought in notes that their elves at home have sent them.

We continue to make predictions and check them in the morning.

Stay tuned fore more "Buddy Business!"

Breakfast with Santa

What a fun day!

Our day started with McGriddles and yogurt tubes from McDonalds.

We heard the Ho Ho Ho of Santa nearby...and he came to visit us!  We were SO excited!  Santa wanted to read a story to the children.  We asked what his favourite story was.  He said he liked stories about Jesus the best.  So...he read a beautiful story about the day Jesus was born, called The Crippled Lamb.

After the story the kids asked Santa all sorts of difficult questions...
"How do your reindeer fly?"
"Can you fly without your reindeer?"
"Do you have magic dust?"
"What are your elves doing?"
"Can you see our elf on the shelf?"
"What will our elf do next?"
"Can you bring me a puppy?"

Everyone had a chance to have a quick visit with Santa.

After Santa left, the girls received a special gift from some friends...even Pikachu liked it!!

Our letters to Santa will be taken to the North Pole by Santa himself.
